Storytelling for Machines
We’re not building tools, we’re building digital minds. And these minds - like their biological counterparts - are trained through story. Up until now, the dominant narrative for creators has been using AI as a tool. But in the Build / Build Upon future, the massive underexplored opportunity for those skilled in expressing meaning through story is to participate in the building of the structured human intelligence that trains these multi modal models.
In this talk, Seth Piezas, Executive Director of Colabi Foundation, will work from his own history - a journey that transformed technical artistry at Pixar Animation Studios to product development in autonomous, learned driving systems at NVIDIA. He will walk through the process of fleshing out the data that robustly covers the functional, conceptual space of an AI model. And from a perspective of advising to the Sundance Film Institute on Artificial Intelligence and SCAD’s new Applied AI program, Mr Piezas will concretely review the opportunities that lay ahead in a world where “data is the new code”. And we will visit frontier career paths for adaptable storytellers as Narrative Architects and World Builders
Finally, we will visit a concrete demonstration of how the same skills used to imbue a video model with generative powers can be used to build an autonomous vehicle system.
